Tarte Pure Maracuja Oil review and comparison to argan oil!

In this video, I give my thoughts on Tarte's Maracuja Oil, give you some lower cost alternatives, and compare it to argan oil! I've talked a lot in the past about how much I love argan oil, so how does maracuja oil measure up?

Damp Sponge Foundation Routine!

I've had a lot of requests recently for an updated foundation routine, and this is what I've been loving for the past year+: applying foundation with a damp sponge! It's by far the best application method I've found for dry skin, but it gives an even, flawless finish on all skin types and with a variety of foundations.

All of the products used are in the description of the video. Let me know what your favorite foundations are, and how you like to apply them. Like you guys, I'm always interested in what other people are doing with their makeup too!

Paula's Choice product overviews: sunscreens and antioxidant serums

Here are the first two videos in my Paula's Choice product overview series, where I compare each product to the other products in that category and give my personal experience with the ones I have tried.

If you've never tried (or even heard of) Paula's Choice, they are a 100% fragrance-free, cruelty-free skin care and makeup brand, and my personal favorite. It is quite rare to find products that are unscented, cruelty free, expertly formulated and reasonably priced!

The evolution of all good things...

Hey everyone, just want to give you a quick update on what's going on with me and the blog. I started this blog for fun to have a place to put all of my crazy nail art pictures, but unfortunately I've had to substantially cut back on my chemical exposure. As some of you may know, I've been dealing with some chronic health problems for a while, which forced me to quit practicing as an esthetician, and one of the most recent discoveries has been that I have a genetic dysfunction that prevents my immune system from identifying certain kinds of toxic substances and removing them from my body. So my doctor is on my case about reducing my exposure to anything that may be problematic, ergo less nail art. :/

But there is good news! Well, it's good if you're interested in skin care. If you're not aware, I have had a channel on youtube for the past three years where I talk about skin care, products, ingredients--generally just trying to share my expertise as an esthetician. My channel has been gaining more popularity lately, so I've decided to make better use of this space and develop it as an extension of my channel. The blog will undergo substantial changes in the coming weeks.

If you aren't interested in skin care and makeup, I completely understand if you don't stick around. But I hope you'll all stay tuned and enjoy the other side of my online shenanigans. That sounded dirty. It's not (or is it...?).

To give you an idea of what I'm about, here are my last two videos (please visit their respective youtube pages to 'like' and ask questions in the comments). Hope you enjoy!

Also, since there are a lot of questions that come up repeatedly, I've been using my facebook page to share information about common topics. Check it out here and hit the 'like' button for updates, interesting articles and information.

DIY Moisturizing Polish Remover!

Hello my darlings, I'm still dealing with life and all that... But I uploaded this video to youtube on making a moisturizing polish remover, and thought y'all might enjoy it. I meant to do this as a post a long time ago (did I? I really don't remember :P), but videos are always good. So here you go!

As usual, if you want to see the details, go to the youtube page. I mostly do skin related videos there, so stick around if you enjoy that sort of thing. :)

Scattered and Tattered Heels of Dazzle

Hi everyone! I haven't posted in a while, blah blah blah... Let's look at some nails.

Matte glitter manicure with Urban Outfitters Binge, China Glaze Scattered and Tattered, Zoya Sooki, Venique Heels of Dazzle

I got a few of the China Glaze Glitz Bitz 'n' Pieces glitters and have been playing with them a lot lately. I was inspired to layer the pink one, Scattered and Tattered, with Venique's Heels of Dazzle, which is a very pretty red hex glitter over my trusty Urban Outfitters Binge with Zoya Sooki on the accent nail. I thought it would be nice matte, so I topped it with NYC Matte Me Crazy.

I really like these glitters, but man they're a pain. They're very dense, which is fantastic, but they turn goopy fast, and it's hard to get a light layer. On a bare nail or swatch wheel, they can be applied lightly, but over a tacky polished nail, they tend to cling to the polish and form a thick layer of glitter.

Also I've found that they don't wear very well for whatever reason. Maybe it's the bar glitter and large pieces, or something in the base. It's a mystery. I still like them though.

I'm still trying to figure out how best to photograph nails with my new camera and lights. It seems to do better with a white background than my usual black, so I'll see how that goes.

New Year's Holo on Holo action!

Hope you all had a lovely Christmas! I've been quite busy with Christmas-y things, and life things, and I needed a little break from blog things. Also, as it turns out, homemade Christmas gifts and manicures don't mix. Anyway!

What's more party-licious than holographic glitter? I'll tell you what... Holographic glitter on top of holographic polish. Yeah, baby!

First two photos are with flash. I'm still trying to figure out how to photograph holographic polish. I also got a new camera! How do the photos look? Any different?

Making this kind of manicure is ridic-easy. Apply a few coats of holo polish, then layer different sizes and shapes of holo glitter on top. I started with the smallest and ended with the largest. That gem on top is Venique Twinkling Glitter. Have I mentioned how much I love Twinkling Glitter lately?

It's a holo party! Happy new year, everyone. :)
